Come along for the party! Join me as I open my April spinning box from thespinningbox.com.
Come along as I explore my March Spinning Box from spinningbox.com. I love the excitement of my box arriving in the mail. Often I will sit it up and look at it imagining all the colors and fiber combinations that are waiting for me just under that tape!
Mary Egbert has done a great job over the years to bring together some of the best fiber artists from around the world to offer their unique fiber to the Spinning Box. Each box is an adventure and I’ve learned to spin many new fibers that I would not have tried except that they came to me in my box and packaged in a way that I was not intimidated by them. I spun my first hemp from the spinning box! The artist had blended it with wool so I wasn’t stressed….I know how to spin wool! Sometimes the color combinations light a fire under me! It makes me want to jump up and spin.

ps….look for some of my fiber next month!
Our home was built in 1870. It has withstood floods, hurricanes, snow storms and tornadoes but as an older home it is prone to certain problems. Most problematic recently has been our plaster ceilings. Over the years one or another has fallen in on us so when the ceiling in my wool room started to sag we decided to remodel prior to catastrophe. Can you imagine and attic full of debris, dirt and insulation mixed with wool and yarn?
This has not been an easy time for our business as I’ve had to put everything from two rooms into one room that is half the size. Our contractor did a great job at keeping the mess at a minimum but I also decided to have the downstairs repainted so we’ve been so limited in what we could do and where we could be but alas our adventure is almost complete!
The demo is completed and the remodel has begun! Next week paint!!!! This has been a trying experience but we are nearing the end and the beginning will be great. We’re moving the fiber room and creating a space just for all the children who come in and out of our home – 8 grandchildren and all their friends.
Soon we’ll have pictures of the completed project and I can’t wait because once done we are debuting a new product!!! Designer roving!!!
Come along as I rebox my spinning box from spinningbox.com. This month’s theme was Yin Yang and my box was full of beautiful fibers that I can’t wait to spin. If you like what you see head on over to spinningbox.com to get yours. Next month’s theme is Artist’s Choice and I can’t wait!!!
I have a friend named “Mike”.
Some of you might call him imaginary! I’ve never met him or even spoken to him. I don’t know what he looks like or even where he is. He’s like the wind. You can’t see the wind but you know it’s there. The trees bend, the leaves blow around, you see what it does but you can’t actually see it but it is real.
So is he!
Actually he’s our web designer and is responsible for the cool new logo we’ve been sporting for a while! I can’t say enough about him. He is the man behind the new website design and he’s made us look good! I found Mike through Fiverr. He and I started small and after the logo redesign we moved on to other marketing changes. Then came the challenge of modernizing our website! It has been amazing to work with Mike. I give him ideas and he makes them a reality! You can now hear our hunting and game calls before you purchase them.
I could go on and on about all the great things that Mike is doing for us! Look for more changes and updates. I am so happy with the changes and new website design.
So if you’re looking for digital help, web site design, logos or just about anything else please check him out! I can’t say enough good about his designs, professionalism, and quality of work.
My plans for 2018 include spinning and knitting hemp, ramie and bamboo then knitting up swatches and I have a ton of ideas and patterns for those.
When you knit, spin, crochet, weave… do you ever challenge yourself to learn new things? I have decided to work on a few new things this year in my spinning, knitting and weaving. I am going to spin different fibers and so far, I have spun flax! Which I found I really enjoyed! I also knit up a sample swatch, which brings me to my next new thing I want to do this year. I want to knit my swatches to have a border and learn a new stich/pattern while doing it.
My plans for 2018 include spinning and knitting hemp, ramie and bamboo then knitting up swatches and I have a ton of ideas and patterns for those. I also want to get back to weaving so I am planning to spin enough natural flax and bleached flax to try to make some woven linen towels.
I have been looking at patterns for a sweater too! I want one that is easy with not a lot of extra steps for my first attempt. I have some yarns that I dyed so they will be perfect but I am so hesitant to get started. It seems like such a big commitment compared to the hats, gloves and mittens I have been working on. I am just going to have to cast on and begin the journey.
