About

MK Unique Designs was born out of a love of hand-crafting with wood and wool.

My husband has a great eye for wood and what a finished product will look like. He studies his wood to look for the best angles and shapes to take advantage of the natural beauty. He is able to take a concept and turn it into reality.

I on the other hand love fiber. I learned young to crochet and started sewing as a young mother making my children’s clothing when they were small. I even supported myself for a time sewing for other people. Recently being an empty nester I started looking for a hobby and came across needle-felting. I fell in love immediately. Then I tried my hand at fiber processing! LOVE! There is such a sense of accomplishment when you take a stinky, dirty fleece and produce a soft pile of usable white wool. I have begun to try dyeing fibers and am enjoying experimenting with mixing colors. Spinning took me by surprise. I thought I’d give it a try but did not hold out hope that I would enjoy it. I now find myself spinning several hours a day.

As we discussed starting a business our mission became quite clear to us “Feed the hungry children”. MK Unique Designs is committed to reach as many people as possible in order to fulfill this mission. Currently we donate 10% of all sales (not proceeds but actual sales) to our local food pantry through our church Grottoes United Methodist. Our goal is to eventually donate to larger locations as the business grows.

Thank you so much for taking the time to learn about MK Unique Designs.

  1. Hey, you answered my question on amazon, that you make your calls right here in Virginia. I’ll always support a local, before I support elsewhere. I am just up the road in New Market, and was wondering if we could completely forgo amazon, if you are capable of such a thing. Thank you!
